Chunsong Lu is a Full Professor (Tier 2) and Ph.D. Supervisor at Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology (NUIST). He has received the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) for Distinguished Young Scholars, the NSFC Excellent Young Scientists Fund, the Distinguished Young Scholar Award of the Jiangsu Provincial Natural Science Foundation, and the Jiangsu Specially-Appointed Professorship. He was a member of the International Commission on Clouds and Precipitation (ICCP) and serves as a member of the Chinese National Committee of the International Association of Meteorology and Atmospheric Sciences (IAMAS). He is an Associate Editor of Journal of Geophysical Research: Atmospheres (JGR) and serves on the editorial boards of Advances in Atmospheric Sciences (AAS), Journal of Meteorological Research (JMR), and Atmospheric and Oceanic Science Letters (AOSL). Dr. Lu obtained his B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. from NUIST. He has conducted research visits at Brookhaven National Laboratory (USA) and the Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP).

Dr. Lu’s research focuses on the physical processes and parameterization of clouds, fog, and precipitation. He has led seven national-level projects, including those funded by China’s National Key Research and Development Program and the NSFC. He has published 169 peer-reviewed articles (86 as first or corresponding author) and contributed a chapter to an AGU book. He holds six granted invention patents and has received over 30 awards, including the AGU James R. Holton Junior Scientist Award, the Yu-Xiang Young Scholar Award from the Chinese-American Oceanic and Atmospheric Association, recognition in China’s Top Ten Meteorological Science and Technology Progresses (2024), the Second-Class Science and Technology Progress Award of Tianjin, the Jiangsu May Fourth Youth Medal, the Jiangsu High-Level Talent Award (under the “Six Talent Peaks” Program), the Tu Changwang and Xie Yibing Young Meteorological Scientist Awards, the Jiangsu Outstanding Doctoral Dissertation Award, the Outstanding Contribution Award from Brookhaven National Laboratory, the AGU Outstanding Student Paper Award, the U.S. Department of Energy Office of Science Student Poster Award, and the Highly Cited Paper Awards from JGR and Atmospheric Research.

Dr. Lu has served as a reviewer for the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC), the European Research Council (ERC), and the Israel Science Foundation (ISF), as well as for more than 30 journals—including PNAS, Geophysical Research Letters (GRL), JGR, and Journal of the Atmospheric Sciences (JAS). He also acts as a reviewer for the China Scholarship Council (CSC), the NSFC, and the China Postdoctoral Science Foundation.
