Ren Wang is an associate professor at Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology (NUIST). Facing the coupling between the terrestrial water cycle and the climate system under global changes, he focuses on the mechanisms of land-atmosphere interactions and the elolution laws of extreme hydroclimatic events. His work utilizing big data (observations and simulations), remote sensing, machine learning, and Earth system simulations to investigate:
1. Hydrology-Climate-Biosphere interactions;
2. Surface evapotranspiration and energy balance processes;
3. Evolution laws, driving mechnisms, and future risks of extreme events (e.g., droughts, heatwave).
Dr. Wang obtained Ph.D. from Sun Yat-sen University, M.S. in Physical Geography from Fujian Normal University, and B.S. in Geographical Information Science from Jiangxi Normal University. He was a visiting/joint Ph.D. student of Columbia University (advisor: Dr. Pierre Gentine). Prior to joining NUIST, he was a postdoctoral fellow at School of Geography, Nanjing Normal University.
Research Fields:
Land-Atmosphere Interactions, Hydroclimatology, Global Change, Extreme Climate, Drought, Remote Sensing
